If you’re over the summer heat, you’re not the only one. An Aransas National Wildlife Refuge visitor caught a video of an armadillo cooling off with a swim.

Instagram user Lauren Russell says she and her mother were surprised to see the animal swimming in the water along the Texas Gulf Coast.
Russell says they initially thought the armadillo was a piece of driftwood until they saw it paddling along. She and her mother only lasted ten minutes in the Texas heat until they headed to the car for some A/C. The so-called “tactical possum” continued to swim in the bay happily.
Wildlife officials say armadillos are good swimmers, so it’s more common than you may think. They can also hold their breath for up to six minutes and even walk underwater to cross streams.
