Unlikely Thieves Are Stealing Shoes at a Michigan Campground

Hide your shoes, campers. (Especially if you’re camping at the Tahquamenon Falls-Rivermouth Campground at Tahquamenon Falls State Park.) Someone’s been stealing people’s shoes at this Michigan campground, particularly flip-flops and Crocs, and it isn’t the fashion police. Crucial evidence suggests the thief is actually a band of unlikely thieves, and they have bushy tails.

“[The thieves] have four legs and are adorable,” Tahquamenon Falls State Park says in a Facebook post that shows photos of the thieves’ recently discovered stash. “All of the shoes shown were found outside a fox den.”

That’s right, foxes are the ones that have been stealing shoes at this campground.

“If you look closely, you can see teeth marks in the flip flops and straps have been chewed off the light pink crocs,” the state park says its Facebook caption.

While the foxes haven’t destroyed the shoes, you can see several bite marks on some of them. The light pink Crocs seem to have been the foxes’ favorite pair. As the Tahquamenon Falls State Park caption noted, the thieves seem to have chewed off the back straps on both shoes.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park doesn’t suggest they’ll be taking any action against these unlikely thieves. It’s their home after all; we’re just camping in it.

The state park does recommend all campers keep their shoes inside this summer, just in case the foxes fancy your kicks. For the health of the foxes, too, we suggest keeping those Crocs and flip-flops hidden away.
