Five years ago Coalatree released a hand-forged survival knife in limited quantity and they sold out almost immediately. Why? Because it had that timeless look and feel that we all crave. It’s classic. It’s sturdy. It’s a knife that you can pass down to the next generation. The good news is that they’re back at it.

The second edition of the Coalatree Haswell Survival Knife is absolutely stunning. The 4.5″ blade is hand-forged from 1095 carbon steel with a Scandi ground edge. They sent me one for testing and it was shaving sharp right out of the sheath. It’s one of the most comfortable knives I’ve ever held, but beyond that, it’s so beautiful that I’m tempted to put it in a case on the wall. It harkens back to an earlier time when craftsmen had the time and skill to create beautiful, functional tools.
You can still get one on Indiegogo for $75, which is a steal in my opinion. After that, the price will double and I’d still say that it’s worth it.
