“[This] might be the best video of a lynx we have ever captured,” says the Voyageurs Wolf Project in a Facebook post. The post shares a video of an elusive Canada lynx as it approaches the camera, stops, and sits. At one point, the lynx even stares right into the trail cam, giving the world an incredible glimpse of this rarely seen wildcat.

Voyageurs Wolf Project says the trail cam is in northern Minnesota, where lynx roam in small numbers. The Canada lynx also lives in northern Maine, northern New Hampshire, northwestern Montana, northern Idaho, north-central Washington, and western Colorado, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Seeing a lynx in this region is always a good sign of the species’ recovery. The Minnesota Zoo reports: “Minnesota used to have the most lynx in the Great Lakes. Numbers dropped to near zero in the 1980s. Only recently have we seen signs of recovery.”
