10 Ski and Snowboard Resorts Open in March, April — and Beyond!

The mercury may be rising, but that doesn’t mean you have to hang up your skis (or snowboard) for the season. Many resorts across the country still get snow and remain open through April — through May — and beyond! Some mountains even have summer hours (and yes, we mean for skiing and riding).

Here are 10 resorts that usually stay open late into the spring season, which means more time on the slopes for you!

Brighton Resort, UT

Closing Day: April 23 (or TBD)

The Details: Big Cottonwood Canyon’s Brighton might close sooner than its cousin Snowbird (in next-door Little Cottonwood Canyon), though its closing day is a beloved holiday for locals. Many wear costumes and stay late on the mountain, throwing sunset parties or tailgate sessions in the parking lot. There’s usually plenty of snow (the mountain averages 500 inches per winter), and blue skies abound.

Vail, CO

Closing Day: April 24 (or TBD)

The Details: Last year Vail remained open until May 1, 2022, so there’s a decent change mountain might stay open beyond April. Either way, hit this resort in the spring and you’ll experience excellent top-to-bottom conditions and the likelihood of bluebird skies. This year Vail celebrates its 60th anniversary of legendary skiing and riding with art installations and even a commemorative gondola cabin. If you’re lucky, you can score a special ride to the top.

Snowbird, UT

Closing Day: May 15

The Details: Petrichor. Thats the rain smell – and the delicious way that wood and earth smell when wet. Ski around Snowbird during the spring and you’ll know what we mean. Once May 6 hits, Snowbird will only be open on the weekends—but they’ll be days well spent.

Breckenridge, CO

Closing Day: May 15

The Details: Breckenridge includes five peaks in one resort—creating 3000 acres of skiable terrain for all levels. The late-season snow is typically excellent, too, thanks to high elevation (Peak 10 reaches 13,640 feet!), and the area has been known to sometimes get a heft of fresh powder even in June.

Mt. Hood (Timberline), OR

Closing Day: End of May (TBD) with the Palmer Express quad running until September (TBD).

The Details: Timberline gets a lot of snow—and if you’re into it, you can ski and ride during the summer. Unless you attend a special ski or snowboard camp your choice of runs can sometimes be limited to one or two top-to bottom groomers. Timberline also offers several terrain parks you can explore too, however—to mix things up or keep your kids entertained.

Mt. Bachelor, OR

Closing Day: May 28 (estimated)

The Details: It’s possible to experience primo winter skiing and snowboarding conditions in late May at Mt. Bachelor, even if the weather is warm in nearby Sunriver. What’s more, Mt. Bachelor features 4300 acres—which means there’s plenty to ski and ride for everyone. The U.S. Ski Team has been known to train here all the way through early summer! Look out for some fast skiers and riders, or XC skiers at the Mt. Bachelor Nordic Center.

Mammoth Mountain, CA

Closing Day: May 29 (or TBD)

The Details: This mountain is KNOWN for great late-season skiing (and for its lively aprés scene) though it’s hard to believe there’s incredible skiing and riding just 300 miles outside of Los Angeles. Mammoth Mountain offers slopes for fun-seekers of all levels and has received more than 550 inches of snow to date.

Killington, VT

Closing Day: June (TBD. Killington tends to close in mid-May, though last season the resort closed June 4. This year the mountain may stay open even later.)

The Details: The Beast of the East has sometimes remained open into June, though this season the mountain could close in late April. Keep an eye on the conditions. You can still expect great coverage, along with plenty of slushy bumps. In fact, it’s often more fun to ski Killington’s moguls in the spring when the terrain is more forgiving. Lap it up!

Arapahoe Basin, CO

Closing Day: June 1 (Estimated)

The Details: A-Basin is known for its rugged terrain and local feel, yet its affordability and extended open dates make it a top choice for any skier or rider. The resort typically gets a lot of late-season snow each season, and this year should be no different.

Palisades Tahoe, CA

Closing Day: May 29—or later, snow permitting.

The Details: Palisades Tahoe calls itself the Spring Skiing Capital and for good reason—the resort stays open late. Think soft, beautiful snow, live music and plenty of sunshine. The snowpack can sometimes last well into the summer, too. In 2017, Palisades Tahoe (which was then Squaw Valley) remained open until July 15.
