According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Wild Country has issued a voluntary recall for its Superlight Rocks single-wired chocks for climbing. The recall includes models 40-RSL and 40-RSLSET. Owners of the product should immediately stop using the item.
Climbers use chocks as gear placed while trad climbing, but according to the recall, salty air is corroding the equipment and weakening the cables. The chocks could break and send a climber to the ground.
Stores sold the items between 2017 and February 2023. Retailers include REI, Backcountry, CamperSaver and more. The product was also available in Canada and sold at Mountain Equipment Company (MEC).
Anyone who owns the product should contact Wild Country for a free replacement. You can find detailed instructions on the company’s website.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of any injuries from the faulty item.
