This year’s Tour de France was a tightly fought battle between Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard, who have both won in the last few years. Vingegaard managed to win after slipping away this past week for a wider lead.
LeMond says it was a formula for a great race.
“I thought it was one of the best tours in many, many years. I think it was incredibly exciting because you had two people that were battling back and forth,” says LeMond. “Kind of reminded me of 1989 with Fignon. It’s pretty rare to have two riders so equal. That’s why you’ll see Tour de France riders win five races in a row. It’s mainly because there’s not an equal that you’re competing against, and that’s really, to me, what makes the Tour exciting.”
