NPS: Survivors ‘Unlikely’ in Denali Plane Crash

National park officials say they don’t think anyone survived the plane crash that occurred earlier this week in Denali National Park.

In Thursday’s announcement, officials explained that a search crew found the wreckage in a narrow ravine in Denali’s southwest preserve, and from what they observed, “survivability of the crash was unlikely.”

Although search and rescue crews have made multiple passes through the area, the effort has been limited due to weather and the rugged terrain. They plan to fly rangers out to the site Friday afternoon to inspect the wreckage.

They added that they found the wreckage using the last known coordinates from the pilot’s Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). Also, officials have not released the name of the pilot and they said they’re unsure if the plane had any passengers aboard.

NPS officials said they will update the public when more is known and they’ll partner with National Transportation Safety Board to investigate the crash.
