Mount Tamalpais State Park is North of the Golden Gate Bridge. The park has a 2,571 foot peak that offers splendid views of the Farallon Islands, Marin County hills, the San Francisco Bay, the east bay, and Mount Diablo.
Camping at Mount Tamalpais State Park
The Pantoll Campground has 16 sites and cannot be reserved. The Rocky Point-Steep Ravine Environmental Campground has 4 primitive sites and 9 rustic cabins, reservations are recommended. The Alice Eastwood Group Camp has 2 sites to accommodate 25 to 50 people. The Frank Valley Group Horse Camp has corrals for 12 horses. If the site allows reservations, they must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
Amenities at Mount Tamalpais State Park
The Bootjack picnic area has drinking water, flush toilets, stoves, and tables. East Peak Summit has a visitor center, picnic tables, a handicapped accessible restroom, and a refreshment stand. Perhaps one of the most impressive amenities is the 3,750 seat Mountain Amphitheater that was built in the 1930s. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the theater out of natural stone.
Things To Do in Mount Tamalpais State Park
The park has over 50 miles of trail for hikers. A large group picnic area that can accommodate up to 50 picnickers is available for day use. The Mountain Amphitheater is available for reservations for special events. Every spring, Mountain Play Association presents outdoor productions of Broadway musicals.
