Joule : Caffeine Bracelet (!?)

I believe there are two types of coffee drinkers in the world: those who enjoy the daily ritual of drinking coffee, and those who drink it simply as a way to ingest caffeine. If you consider yourself the latter option, the Joule Caffeine Bracelet just might be your cup of…well, nothing.

Let me start by saying, I love caffeine – but I’m definitely not a habitual coffee drinker. Sure, I’ll drink a cup when there’s no other options – but the thought of getting up every morning to tend to the coffee pot isn’t my idea of a great time. When camping, I lean toward powdered energy drinks that can be mixed with water. It’s easy.

This past week, the Joule Caffeine Bracelet launched on IndieGoGo. The promise? Deliver caffeine and energy producing vitamins directly into your blood stream via a transdermal patch. While they’ve presented it as an alternative to coffee – I’ve found them to be a new way to administer caffeine directly into my system.

Here was my test:

  • For the past 4 days, I’ve placed a Joule patch on the inside of my wrist at the start of the day.
  • I didn’t ingest any additional caffeine before lunchtime.
  • I measured the way I felt.

The last step is the trickiest. Because I don’t have access to a “caffeine meter”, the actual results were based on gut feeling. With that said, the Joule patches are awesome! Because the energy is slow-released into your body, there isn’t the “coffee-spike” and on the other end “coffee-crash”. The energy is gave me was consistent, and didn’t make me jittery.

I could go on and on. If you’re constantly on the hunt for a caffeine bump, you’ll want to check out the Joule campaign on IndieGoGo.
