Duncan’s Family Campground, Maryland

Camp Maryland: I’m talking with Andrew today. He’s the Office Manager at Duncan’s Family Campground in Maryland. How’s it going today?

Andrew: It’s going very well, and yourself?

Camp Maryland: Having a good day. Let’s start with about how long Duncan’s Family Campground has been there and how you guys got started.

Andrew: Well, it opened up in 1977. We’ve been open now for 37 years. Next year will be our 38th.

Camp Maryland: Okay. And what types of camping do you guys offer there?

Andrew: We have everything from tent sites to RV for, you know, full hook-ups, and water and electric, back-in as well as pull-throughs. And we also have cabins and cottages available for rent as well as some rental trailers.

Camp Maryland: Okay. And what the most popular activities for the guests?

Andrew: The most popular activities would be like our Activity Weekends. Starting in April, we have a few in the off-season that we do. Easter. We have some time warp weekends. We just started last year, which is we do throwback parades to the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s.

Camp Maryland: Oh, fun.

Andrew: Oh yeah. And then, starting in May with Memorial Day Weekend of course. That’s probably our biggest weekend. We do all sorts of weekends following that. We have everything from Board Game Weekends. We also have Birthday Weekends to celebrate our birthday and a few other things. All the major weekends of course. And our biggest – I would say the biggest thing that’s really popular here would be Halloween. We have two Halloween Weekends. We end up breaking up because it’s just too popular. So many people want to go.

Camp Maryland: And is that something that’s open to the public then?

Andrew: It’s not open to the public, but it’s open to all the campers staying here.

Camp Maryland: Oh, okay, cool. Now, what are some of your favorite attractions in the area that you generally recommend for guests to check out if they want to head outside of the Park?

Andrew: I definitely always recommend the National Zoo. That’s a really great place to go. It’s free to go for the day. Of course, when you get in there, there’s lots of stuff that you can pay for and buy, but as far as actual admission goes, you don’t have to worry about anything for that. You also have the Smithsonian. It’s really great to see, and most of those are also free. And of course all the monuments in D.C. Those are really awesome to go see, and we take all of our campers to the beginning of the Blue Line. It’s (Unclear 2:20.9) Town Center, and that has most of the monuments and museums along that.

Camp Maryland: Okay, two more questions for you, Andrew. If you could spend just one hour at Duncan’s Family Campground, how would you spend your time there?

Andrew: Probably setting up a campfire and maybe go play some mini golf. And if it’s the in season, go for a swim in the pool.

Camp Maryland: Fun. And if you could spend just one night at Duncan’s Family Campground, which specific campsite would you pick and why?

Andrew: That’s a good question. If I wasn’t seeing any trail, I’d probably pick one of the cabins. They’re really nice. They’re nice and rustic. They don’t have – you know, it’s just a bathroom in them, so it’s almost like your hard tent. It’s a lot of fun.

Camp Maryland: Okay, cool. Well, thank you so much for taking some time out of your day, Andrew, to chat with us about Duncan’s Family Campground in Maryland.

Andrew: Thank you so much for taking the time to take the call.

Camp Maryland: All right, take care.

Andrew: You have a great day. Bye-bye.
