In what is sure to be disappointing for millions of people, an originally forecasted chance of seeing the Northern Lights in 17 U.S. states has changed. The original prediction was for this upcoming weekend, but now the chances are very slim.

Earlier this week, reports from the University of Alaska Fairbanks predicted the Northern Lights might be visible from Oregon to Maryland. The excitement quickly spread online.
Also known as the Aurora Borealis, the natural lights are usually only seen at high latitudes, meaning very far north, and can display colors from greens to shades of red and purple.
