Dick’s Sporting Goods to Shut Majority of Moosejaw Stores Across the U.S.

A popular outdoor retailer is closing the majority of its stores. Moosejaw will only keep three stores. The announcement comes just months after Dick’s Sporting Goods purchased the outdoor store from Walmart.

“After careful review of our outdoor specialty business, we have decided to form one team that will support the operations of Public Lands and Moosejaw. The team will be based at Public Lands’ headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA,” says Dick’s Sporting Goods in their official release. “This move supports our business optimization efforts and will allow us to operate more efficiently, quickly leverage best practices across our outdoor business and drive our long-term success. We look forward to continuing to provide outdoor enthusiasts great gear and service on Moosejaw.com, PublicLands.com and at Moosejaw and Public Lands retail locations.”

The company says the remaining in-person Moosejaw stores include Bentonville, AR, Salt Lake City, UT, and Birmingham, MI.

Dick’s Sporting Goods purchased Moosejaw in March of this year after a few years of ownership under Walmart. The company’s other outdoor-focused brand, Public Lands, launched in September 2021 with a big focus on getting people outside.
