Despite Record Summer Heat, This California Ski Resort Remains Open

Here’s a surprising way to beat the summer heat wave: go skiing.

Even more surprising, you can head to California to hit the slopes. Mammoth Mountain is extending its ski season through Sunday, August 6.

California saw record snowfall this year, creating an ongoing winter wonderland at high elevations.

In an Instagram post, the ski resort says only twice in the past 69 have they stayed open until August, the summers of 1995 and 2017.

The company wants visitors to know that it’s not business as usual. The terrain is limited, and the conditions change daily. Visitors shouldn’t expect what they see in February, but as Mammoth says in their post, “Thank you to everyone for being part of this memorable season. Let fun rule!”
