The locals in White Salmon, Washington like good food and well crafted beer. When they get a hankering for both, and a clear day is offering up a stunning view of Mt. Hood, they head over to Everybody’s Brewing. It’s a cozy little pub that puts a lot of heart into delicious food, and beer that would make any suds lover smile. We caught up with owner/brewmaster Doug Ellenberger and here’s what he had to say about the Columbia Gorge, his beer, and the people that live there.

Tell us a little about your brewery, the types of beers that you brew, and what you feel makes your brewery unique.

White Salmon, Washington is a quiet little drinking town, with a major adrenaline problem. Everybody’s Brewing is located right in the middle of the 6-block downtown section. Located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge there is no shortage of outdoor activities to do. Our pub is family friendly and serves high end pub fare. We offer up to 13 of our own house made beers at any point, with guest wines, ciders and gluten free options.

We are currently brewing on a 15 barrel system, and producing about 6000 barrels of beer a year. We primarily focus on making full flavored, well balanced beers with approachable alcohol contents. We feel that our brew staff really sets us apart from a lot of other breweries. We have several very experienced brewers on staff, and that shows in the final product. You can always expect a very clean and balanced beer when you choose to have an Everybody’s.

Proof that their clientele are legit outdoor enthusiasts!

What is your most popular/flagship beer? What makes it great?

Our Country Boy IPA is our number 1 selling beer, followed very closely by our Local Logger Lager. The Country Boy is just a classic styled IPA. The body is pretty dry, with just enough sweetness to make it very drinkable. The Chinook and Centennial hops give a nice bitter flavor, and clean grassy notes.

We love hearing stories about how breweries got their start. What’s the history behind yours?

Christine and I meet while both working at Full Sail Brewing Company in 2001. She had worked in restaurants since she was 15, and I have been a professional brewer since I was 22. For the next seven years, we both worked our normal jobs during the day, and worked on a business plan in our free time. In 2007, we took out a line of credit on our house, and found 11 investors to start the business. We opened our doors in September of 2008 with 15 employees. Currently we have grown to 45 employees, and are about to embark on our second expansion. Thanks to this wonderful community, and hardworking staff, the future is looking bright in White Salmon.

Nothing better than a hearty IPA after a xc ski.

We love meeting people who share our passion for the outdoors. Tell us a bit about the folks involved with your brewery, and what they enjoying doing outdoors.

The Columbia Gorge is just a unique place. The amount of outdoor activities is seemingly endless. More than once I have had conversations with people at the pub, or just around town, to find out that they were Olympic Athletes. On any given day, you can see paragliders from our deck. We have employed some of the best kayakers, and windsurfers in the world. Whitewater Rafting, Kayaking, Mountain Biking, Skiing, Snowboarding, Paddle Boarding, Kite Boarding, Wind Surfing, and Hiking are all around us. There is just plenty of opportunities to have some fun.

Tell us about your favorite experience in the outdoors.

During the summer months, we tend to stick to rafting, floating or stand up paddle boarding on the rivers. In the winter, it’s usually about snowboarding. But there is no bad time of the year to hike the trails.

Is your beer available in cans?

Absolutely! We feel that the can is the best vessel for anyone who wants to enjoy a beer while out on an adventure. No need to every worry about broken glass in our pristine playground. We currently offer three styles in 12oz cans. Country Boy IPA, Local Logger Lager, and Little Sister ISA.

A perfect trail companion.

Where can we find your beer?

You can find us in Washington, Oregon, and Northern Idaho. Your best bet is in grocery stores and bottle shops. We are on draft at many restaurants and bars in the Pacific North West as well.
