New Brighton was once known as China Beach and was host to a Chinese fishing village in the 1870s and 1880s. New Brighton became a state beach in 1933 and is home to Monterey pine and coastal live oak.

Camping at New Brighton State Beach

New Brighton has over 100 group, family, RV, and bicycle campsites making it a great vacation spot for people who love to camp. Visitors can call the park in advance to make site-specific reservations.

Amenities at New Brighton State Beach

Picnic areas are available for guests to enjoy a nice meal amidst beautiful scenery. The park has beach wheelchairs for guests and the visitor and campfire centers, campsites, and restrooms are handicapped accessible. New Brighton has a visitor center and a park store that are not open all week, check with the park for the opening schedules for these buildings. The visitor center and park store are only open from March to September.

Things To Do at New Brighton State Beach

New Brighton State Beach has museum exhibits and educational programs in its visitor center. During the summer, Junior Ranger and campfire programs are offered. Fishing is a great activity to do at New Brighton and a license is not required to fish from the pier. Department of Fish and Game limits are observed.
