MacKerricher State Park is actually recognized as a historical park in the state of California. This is because it is the only park to have ever been a part of the Mendocino Indian Reservation. There was a time where the park was used for independent logging and shipping. The park originally opened for public use in the year 1952. Until the year 1977, the park continued to grow as more and more land was added all along the Ten Mile Beach.
