A Texas family was enjoying summer this past weekend, swimming and barbecuing, when they saw a baby bird on the ground. The bird was alone and looked like it needed the warmth of its mother and nest. Unfortunately, with no mother birds or nests available, the family considered what they did have—flour tortillas. Someone warmed a tortilla up on the grill and then wrapped the baby bird in it before calling for help.

The Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center took the call. The center took to Facebook to share the strange story.
“Undoubtedly, [the tortilla] was an inventive method to keep the baby warm, and surprisingly, it was effective,” the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center said in its post. “The hatchling is currently en route back to the facility. Wildlife Rescue is always filled with lively and unexpected moments.”
Upon arrival at the rescue center, wildlife experts identified the bird as a Mississippi kite, and they named it “Taquito.”
