The footage was taken by the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam in Fort Myers, Florida. It has been recording the dramatic lives of eagle pairs in this nest, which sits about 60 feet (18.2 m) above ground in a slash pine tree, since September 2012. The nest has been rebuilt a few times due to storms over the years. There are now four cameras recording the nest.
Here’s the story so far. It all started with the first eagle pairing, Ozzie and Harriet, who lived in the nest from 2006.
Ozzie passed away in 2015, Harriet bonded with a new eagle, named M15, later that year. They spent eight seasons together, but Harriet disappeared in early 2023, leaving M15 to raise two eaglets alone. Luckily, M15 found a new mate, F23, in the summer of 2023. The pair welcomed this new eaglet on the last day of 2023, named E23, which is their first to successfully hatch. Their journey has been followed by thousands across the world.
The adult eagles are striking with bright yellow beaks and claws, white heads, and brown feathers. The young eaglet is beyond cute, tiny in size with grey, fluffy fur all over.
